GENERAL INFORMATION:

Eastern Health, the largest integrated Health Authority in Newfoundland and Labrador has an exciting career opportunity available for a full- time permanent Family/Emergency Medicine physician.

INFORMATION ON HOSPITAL:

Eastern Health is accepting expressions of interest for a full-time salaried Family Medicine/Emergency physician. The successful applicant will be based at Newhook Community Health Centre, Whitbourne, NL. This position will commence as soon as possible.

The town of Whitbourne is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway on Route 81. The clinic is less than an hour commuting time from the capital city, St. John’s.

Newhook Community Health Centre is a 24-hour emergency, Category B.

JOB DUTIES FOR SPECIFIC POSITION:

Successful applicants are accountable for the provision of comprehensive health care services. The services include: family medicine clinics and Category B emergency room coverage, including emergency care and patient transfer.
Physicians are expected to provide an equal distribution of call responsibility in the local Category B emergency room and general practice clinics.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
• Medical Degree
• Specialization in Family Medicine

EXPERIENCE

• Experience is an asset but not an absolute requirement.
• Proficiency in English language is essential to the role.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Permanent, Full Time

37.5 Hours (per week) plus on call obligation

All applicants must be licensed to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador and must be granted privileges by Eastern Regional Health Authority.

SALARY INFORMATION

Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Salary information:
Pay scale is in accordance with the Department of Health (DOH) salary guidelines.

Physicians entering salaried physician system will be eligible for step assignment taking into consideration their previous work experience. All salaried physicians will be eligible for a retention bonus paid annually according to the category/categories in which they practiced continuously in approved salaried positions for the previous twelve (12), twenty-four (24) or thirty-six (36) months.

INCENTIVES/BENEFITS

• Salaried physicians will be eligible for financial recognition of the On-Call and After Hours Services which they may provide.
• 20 days annual leave
• Eastern Health accommodation provided for up to 3 months of service. Physicians may be eligible to receive a $417 monthly stipend towards rental fees once no longer based in Eastern Health accommodation while in tenure.

o All full-time, active employees, including part-time employees who work 50% of the regular work week, are required to participate in the group insurance program from their first day of employment. All retired employees who are receiving a pension from either the Public Service Pension Plan, the Uniformed Services Pension Plan, the Members of the House of Assembly Pension Plan, or the Provincial Court Judges' Pension Plan may elect to continue coverage.
o All temporary employees, if hired for a period of more than three months, are covered under the program from the first day of employment. Employees who are hired for a period of less than three months, who receive notice of extension exceeding three months, are required to participate from the date of notification.
