The Opportunity
Infrastructure & Natural Resources (INR) is seeking an Investment Director to join our Americas team, with a coverage focus on Latin America. Based in Toronto, this role is particularly well-suited to highly driven professionals with significant direct equity investing and/or investment banking experience in infrastructure.
As an Investment Director, you will play a central role across the investment lifecycle -originating and executing new opportunities, while actively managing portfolio companies within the infrastructure sector. In this capacity, you will serve on boards and partner closely with management teams to shape strategy and drive value creation.
This role provides a platform to further deepen your investment expertise across Latin American markets and sectors, while continuing to build credibility and long-term relationships with management teams, partners, and industry participants.
Who you'll work with
Reporting to the Managing Director and Head of South America Infrastructure coverage, the Investment Director will be a key part of deal and asset management teams comprising investment analysts, investment associates, and investment principals, supported by third-party consultants, operating executives, and legal and accounting professionals dedicated to each particular portfolio company.
The broader INR team includes 70 investment professionals leading the execution of marquee infrastructure transactions and actively managing our portfolio companies. With offices in Toronto, London, Singapore, and Mumbai, INR manages a diverse portfolio of c. C$46.5 billion across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Key Responsibilities
The Investment Director will play an integral role in both the evaluation and execution of direct equity transactions, as well as in the ongoing management of existing portfolio companies. A key aspect of the role will also involve overseeing, providing guidance to, and mentoring junior team members.
Additionally, they will:
Actively manage INR portfolio companies, including serving on boards and partnering with management teams to shape strategy and drive value creation initiatives
Originate, evaluate, and pursue selective investment opportunities, with a particular focus on Latin America
Play a central role in all stages of equity investment execution, leading key workstreams, overseeing valuation and financial analysis, managing internal teams and external advisors, and making investment recommendations
Identify and diligence key business and investment transaction risks, and determine how best to mitigate them
Build and maintain relationships with management teams, directors, partners, lenders, advisors, and broader industry participants
Supervise and develop junior staff, providing clear direction and ongoing feedback
Represent OTPP at regional industry conferences and portfolio company meetings and events
Required Skills
10+ years of professional experience in direct equity investing or investment banking, with a focus on infrastructure
5+ years of investment coverage experience of Latin America is required
In-country experience in Brazil, Chile, and/or Mexico is an asset
Willingness and ability to travel frequently (20%+)
Strong ability to influence outcomes across a range of stakeholders, including management teams, boards, and partners
Sound commercial judgement and ability to form independent views and make decisions with imperfect information in a fast-paced environment
Strong financial acumen and quantitative skills, including experience overseeing valuation and financial analysis
Proven track record in leading the equity investment process, including due diligence, transaction execution, and debt financing
Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams and teams effectively under tight timelines
· Fluency in English required. Portuguese and/or Spanish is an asset
Required Education
· Undergraduate Degree or Master’s Degree in Economics, Commerce, Finance or Business Administration or a related field.
